The incident took place yesterday, Wednesday, in Birol upazila of Dinajpur. The complainant of the robbery, Mainul Islam, is the son of the deceased Khorshed Ali of Gopalpur Boragram area of ​​Bhandara union of the upazila. He is involved in the business of storing fertilizers, seeds, pesticides, etc. At 11:30 pm yesterday, the police recovered 1.1 million taka from his house and brought him to the police station custody. Dinajpur Police Superintendent Marufat Hossain, Additional Police Superintendent (Crime) Anwar Hossain, Additional Police Superintendent (DSB) Sifat-e-Rabbana, Additional Police Superintendent (Sadar Circle) Abdul Halim, and officer-in-charge of Birol police station Abdus Chabur took part in the operation.

During police interrogation, Mainul Islam admitted his crime and mistakes. He said that he had taken loans from several banks. Apart from this, some local businessmen also received money from him. He thought that if a situation were created where the money was stolen, he might get some sympathy from the bank and business friends, including loan waiver.

Quoting Mainul Islam, the police said that he had withdrawn 8 lakh taka from a private bank in Birol upazila at 12 noon yesterday. After withdrawing the money, he returned home, put it in a pesticide carton and left on a motorcycle. Later, he stood on the side of the road in an area called Muradpur and started shouting that the money had been stolen. At that time, local people gathered there. Mainul Islam told the police that he had withdrawn 8 lakh taka from a private bank. He was going to deposit a total of 34 lakh taka, including another 26 lakh taka in his hand, in a government bank. On the way, he was caught by six robbers. The robbers stole the money from him at gunpoint and fled. Then at 3 pm, the police took Mainul Islam with them and collected and reviewed the video footage of all the closed circuit cameras near the city. Mainul was seen in one of the footages. A small empty bag was hanging from the handle of the motorcycle. The police became suspicious and questioned Mainul. At 9 pm, Mainul confessed to the police that he had staged the robbery. Then, according to the information he had given, the police recovered 8 lakh taka from his house, along with 11 lakh taka withdrawn from the bank, from the pesticide cartons kept in the warehouse. At the same time, the police also recovered the mobile phone used by him in the robbery.
